IN MEMORIAM: VESELJKO SULIĆ

VESELJKO SULIĆ, Croatian ballet dancer, choreographer and pedagogue died at the age of 93. After being engaged at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb in 1947 where he danced soloist roles, in 1952 he went to London, Lausanne and Paris for additional education. He danced in troupes of Janine Charrat and Milorad Mišković and participated in Prometheus of Maurice Béjart (Maurice Ohana, 1956). He also danced in Lido de Paris and Folies-Bergère. In 1964 he went to the States where in 1972 he foudned the Nevada Dance Theatre (today known as Nevada Ballet Theatre) where he held the posts of choreographer, pedagogue and artistic leader until 1997. He is the author of many choreographier and some of them were shown in Zagreb and Dubrovnik (1998) and in Split (2006). He is the recipient of numerous awards in Nevadi for the promotion of ballet culture. He published his autobiography Vision in the Desert: a Dancer’s Life in 2001.
